I just updated ubuntu from hardy heron to intrepid ipex. I experienced a loss of all torrents of transmission because of its update from 1.06 to 1.34. To finish active torrents
- Remove the current transmission (but NOT “completely”) (Synaptic)
- Uncheck all repositories (Synaptic)
- Download the following hardy version from http://packages.ubuntu.com
- Install them (they will complain about the wrong order)
- Lock the version (Synaptic)
- Check all previous repositories
When you completed all active downloads just unlock transmission with synaptics and update.
I found a tiny little usefull backup tool called rdiff-backup. Unfortunately it has no gui, but it just works 🙂 I also tried flyback, but this tool copied everything instead of linking it (like it should do), which was pretty nasty when a high amount of files is copied.
Already reported but i didn’t find a real solution. However reinstalling amarok seems to work…
No, it didn’t work. Changed to rythmbox. Still looking for a solution.
This seems to work.
In the past few days i experienced that my sound-system was somehow messed up after some time. And I’m pretty sure, that the firefox flash plugin has something to do with it. However the quick-and-dirty fix is to reload the sound system.
sudo alsa force-reload
This will reload all necessary sound-modules.
If you experience screen flickering at random times you can try adding
options nvidia_new NVreg_Mobile=1 NVreg_RegistryDwords=”PerfLevelSrc=0x2222″
(for copy&paste check the “)
to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc (Ubuntu) in order to fix some timer problems between the driver and compiz-fusion.
It took me a long time to finally see this solution here:
There is a tiny kernel option, which has a big performance impact – especially when it’s configured wrong ^^.
Processor type and features
- Timer frequency (should be set to 1000hz on a desktop system!!!)
(It is NOT a good idea thinking “Oh, what’s good for a server is fine for my desktop!” )
If a compiz-fusion-plugin is complaining about sth. needed by `c-build-objs’ you can try build compiz-fusion from the git-source.
Due to ChaosRadio i’ve found a website where you can download lots of music for free and completely legal. The music there is under the creative commons licence.
If emerge complains about a missing libGL.so you can try selecting another opengl-interfaces via
It will create the necessary links…
try changing the device section of your xorg.conf
Identifier "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon 9200 SE (RV280)"
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
